Microsoft's business in India is growing and growing fast! We now have a wealth of opportunities for IT profesionals who want to apply there skills in this amazing country.

However, there was one project in particular that caught my attention from my recent visit to Hyderabad that I wanted to share with you. It is the very exciting Visual Studio Team Test (VSTT) V1 project which is being managed by one of the very best managers that Microsoft has to offer, Amit Chatterjee. This is a very new and exciting project that is in start up mode and has signifgant financial backing. There are a wide variety of jobs on offer from senior and middle management to right across the architecture, development and test spectrum. So what is Microsoft doing in India?

The simple answer: A LOT!!!

Microsoft has a huge diversity of businesses and teams in India. Sometimes there is so much happening it’s hard to keep up!!!(to learn in detail about the separate business divisions and the variety involved you should go here).

But what I want to focus on is the diverse work we are doing in the IDC or India Development Centre in Hyderabad. Because, just in case you forgot, this is a core-tech blog!!!

So let’s paint a picture so we have the 30,000 feet perspective what Microsoft is doing in India.

A good place to start is by stating that Microsoft India focuses on strategic and IP sensitive software product development. It is led by Srini Koppolu and is now Microsoft’s largest software development centre outside our headquarters in Redmond in the US. The teams in it work closely with all three Microsoft business lines:

Platform Products and Services Division: Includes the Client Group, the Server & Tools Group, and the Online Services Group
Business Division: Includes the Information Worker Group, the Microsoft Business Solutions Group, and the Unified Communications Group
Entetianment and Devices Divison: Includes the Home and Entertinament Group and the Mobile and Embedded Devices Group

It started in August 1998, with a group of 20 people and has evolved over the last 9 years to employ over 1200 people.

What I am hoping to do over the coming months is to introduce to you the product groups we have in the IDC. In doing so I will provide interviews with some of the employees on the ground, show you some pictures of our amazing campus and also highlight some of the exciting new roles we have open.
