Microsoft Egypt is hiring! At the moment there is a number of junior and senior roles in its R&D centres that offer candidates the opportunity to work from Cairo in one of the most exciting technological environment in the region. At the moment there are research develop roles of all levels of seniority, development lead and PM roles as well as an Architect role.

This position is based in the Microsoft Applied Research and Development Center in Cairo, Egypt. The center will be expanding its original applied research focus to include developing/integrating Arabic content services and Arabic language specific technologies for a wide range of Microsoft products. The new Arabic language support will be primary catering to the Arab countries regional and cultural requirements.

We are looking for a talented, innovative, highly motivated hands-on principal level architect to lead a team in designing, prototyping and with potential to incubate, innovative new experiences with software and services targeting Arabic speaking users. In a Arabic Natural Language Processing (NLP) technical leadership role as an individual contributor, you will be responsible for guiding the team and become the point person for deep technical NLP architectural decisions and designs

This position requires skills in architecture, design and hands on implementation, with strong rapid prototyping experience. An ideal candidate excels and enjoys working on a small team in a dynamic start-up environment, can work independently and cooperatively, demonstrates strong communications skills, and has the flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and roles on any given project, including: creating specifications, and hands on development.

Required experience

15 years minimum as an architect and development lead with strong track record of building and delivering Arabic NLP products from inception to ship, with exceptionally strong starter skills, with the ability to lead and build strong teams. Broad understanding of software architecture, engineering principles and development methodologies is required along with knowledge of latest Web technologies. Working within and driving teams in geo-distributed development is a significant plus. This position requires a BA/BS degree in Computer Science or comparable technical discipline and business knowledge, plus 15+ years of industry experience.

For those of you that didn't know we have some new research development roles open in Cairo, Egypt!!! Very, very close to King Kufu's final resting place, the largest of the three pryamids in Giza :)

So let me tell you a little bit about the operation and the team visit this site and keep reading on.

Cairo's Microsoft Innovation Centre, or CMIC, was as we called it is an exciting new research and development centre that was set up in July 2006 as to protoype a variety of new technologies into potential products of the future.

At present we have approximately 100 full-time employees in Microsoft Egypt, 15 of which are with the R&D centre. The team is expanding quickly and they are searching for people who can research, develop, and deliver innovative technology to end users in areas related to practical applications of one or more of the following: natural language processing and computational linguistics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, information retrieval and information extraction, data mining and statistical analysis, distributed computing, computer vision for object and person recognition

Just to give you an idea if you are successful in joining the team you willl…

· Initiate and execute applied research projects:

· Build both prototypes (hands-on analysis and coding) and user-ready applications

· Work as a member of the core product engineering team, but also interface closely with Microsoft Research scientists

· Be willing to perform research that is guided by business opportunities

· Deep dive into data to understand and apply patterns, while maintaining a sense of the big picture

· Publish your research for peer review

· Stay current about state-of-the-art algorithms in the open literature and about competing technologies

The successful candidates for these roles will have:

· PHD in CS, EE, statistics, mathematics, or equivalent field;

· Research experience/background in and familiarity with the literature in the areas listed above; industrial research internships a plus

· Demonstrated ability to generate new ideas and innovate

· 2-yr research track record including min 2 peer-reviewed research publications; stronger publication history a plus

· Strong programming skills including C++ experience; experience developing commercial or high-quality research software a plus

· A well-established research track record demonstrated by journal publications and conference papers.

Fluent English is essential for the role but Arabic is not. That said if you have it, it will help a lot with understanding some of the team introducing themselves to you in the following video:
