This is one of the strangest interviews I've ever done! A senior SDE in Shanghai fielding a wide range of questions while trying to figure out how to use the local massage chair! Who said Microsoft wasn't a fun place to work? Listen to Jen talk about her team, the huge new development centre we are building on the campus, and also give some of her opinions on Chinease food!

So what are we doing in China

The answer is the same as my introductory blog on India I recently posted: A LOT. You'd be amazed by the variety of work we are doing and the phenomenal growth of the company's offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen on the Hong Kong border.

Microsoft China is the most complete R&D portfolio that the company possesses outside of the US. The engineering talent we have is absoultely fantastic and without doubt some of the very best people the company possesses are based from China.

Our business is based into 5 main categories: Our Search Technology Centre (STC), our Advanced Technology Centre (ATC), a wide variety of business groups working on cool stuff like: Windows Live, adLabs, voice recognition, data warehousing, mobile search, virtual earth and much more, our strategic partnership group and our operations group.

We have over a 1,000 full time (FTE) employees in a wide variety of roles e.g. Program Managers, Software Development and Design, Test Engineer, Research Engineering, Consultancy, Tech Support and Product Marketing to name but a few.
